Hotel Materra in Čepin has been awarded the title of the safest hotel, winning the TouRisk Awards 2026 — presented for the first time in Croatia. The recognition was given to Materra as part of the inaugural TouRisk conference, which highlights excellence in safety and risk management in tourism.
Unlike traditional awards that often rely on general impressions, the TouRisk Awards introduce, for the first time, a transparent and measurable evaluation process to objectively assess the actual level of safety and risk management. Safety is evaluated through concrete criteria such as protocols and preparedness for crisis situations.
“We are honored to receive the TouRisk Awards 2026 and to be recognized as the safest hotel in Croatia. This award is a confirmation of the dedicated work of our team, who continuously invest in the highest standards of safety, service quality, and guest trust. We believe that safety is not just a standard, but the foundation of every premium experience, and this recognition further motivates us to consistently maintain and uphold the highest standards of safety and quality,” said Nina Dumančić, the hotel’s director, who accepted this valuable award.
The TouRisk Awards 2026 are the first national awards dedicated exclusively to safety and risk management in tourism, and were presented in eight categories: hotel, campsite, marina, national park or nature park, event organization, and large, urban, and boutique destinations. According to the organizers, the TouRisk Awards also send a broader message to international markets—that Croatia is not only “naturally” safe, but also has an organized, professional, and expert approach to risk management in tourism.
The TouRisk conference was held from April 13 to 15 in Petrčane near Zadar, bringing together more than 200 participants from the tourism, security, technology, and public sectors. Through lectures and panel discussions, the conference created a space for knowledge exchange and strengthening the safety capacities of Croatian tourism. Nina Dumančić, director of Materra, participated in the panel “Safety as an Element of Destination Management – What Tourism Board Employees and Legal Entities Need to Know About Safety.”
In just two years since its opening, Hotel Materra, part of the Žito Group and located in the peaceful oasis of the Slavonian plains, has won a number of awards. Among them, it was named Best Wellness Hotel of the Year at the Croatian Tourism Days 2025.
Recently, it also received the prestigious Traveller Review Award from the global platform Booking.com. With an impressive average rating of 9.9, Materra has confirmed its status as one of the highest-rated hotels in Croatia for the second consecutive year.
“The guest is at the center of everything we do, and our mission is to create a unique experience inspired by the rich Slavonian tradition, which we interpret in a modern and refined way, with guest satisfaction and safety as our key priorities,” concluded Director Dumančić.
